Week 7 Heisman Top 10: Chasing Boykin and Fournette

Heisman Trophy front-runners Trevone Boykin and Leonard Fournette continued along in Week 7 at the same remarkable pace each has been on through this season.

But the gap between Fournette, Boykin and the field isn’t widening. On the contrary: Playmakers from various, emerging Playoff contenders used this week to strengthen their resumes.

Baylor quarterback Seth Russell impresses with each passing week, in part because the Bears’ schedule improves. Higher quality opponents reflect more favorably on his staggering statistics.

Russell’s teammate, wide receiver Corey Coleman, is a fast-rising name to follow in the Heisman race. He didn’t crack this week’s CFB Huddle barometer of the Heisman landscape, but it may only be a matter of time.

Once voters and assorted other media do begin to pick up on Coleman, his rise could be as meteoric as that of Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey rides a jet pack in the Heisman Top 10 for the first time after his one-man show against UCLA Thursday.
