LARRY ROSE III, RB, NEW MEXICO STATE
Last year’s leading rushers were the Who’s Who of college football running backs: Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Ezekiel Elliott, Royce Freeman, Dalvin Cook, Larry Rose III.
Wait…Larry Rose III?
Yes, a running back by any other name of that group is either bound for the NFL draft, or a Heisman front-runner in 2016. Rose doesn’t fit either category, but he is the leading, returning rusher in the Group of Five. He’s also one big reason I’m bullish on New Mexico State snapping its 55-year bowl drought come fall.
Rose was central to the Aggies winning their first game of 2015, and played his best football during their three-game winning streak late in the campaign.
He went for 610 yards and six touchdowns rushing, and caught a seventh score in that stretch. On the season, the explosive Rose surpassed 1,600 yards rushing and caught for 283.
Rose is a shifty, elusive runner with tremendous breakaway speed. He’s one of the most exciting play makers the Group of Five has to offer.
