Week 13 Heisman Top 10: Derrick Henry Charges Ahead

4. STANFORD RB CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY

Notre Dame’s stout defense made Christian McCaffrey fight for every one of his 94 yards in the Cardinal’s 38-36 win Saturday, instead leaving the game on the arm of Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan. The fifth-year senior Hogan took over the spotlight with four touchdown passes and an impressive final drive to set up the game-winning field goal.

Now, if a 94-yard game with another 19 yards on three receptions is the throwaway game in a Heisman candidate’s portfolio, he’s had an impressive year. Christian McCaffrey’s been the most electrifying player in the Pac-12, and remains the nation’s leader in total yards from scrimmage. Add his return duties, and he has perhaps the most well-rounded resume of any contender.

3. FLORIDA STATE RB DALVIN COOK

Injuries, an inconsistent passing game, highly ranked and regarded defenses: None of those things have been enough to slow Dalvin Cook.

The Florida State running back looks like a slam dunk for an invite to New York after bulling over rival Florida in the Seminoles’ regular-season finale. He closes out the campaign averaging a hair below 8 yards per carry. Per carry! That’s nearly two YPC better than front-runner Derrick Henry. Cook’s also scored 18 rushing touchdowns, one behind Ezekiel Elliott in fewer opportunities.
