Week 13 Heisman Top 10: Derrick Henry Charges Ahead

2. CLEMSON QB DESHAUN WATSON

For the third time on the year, Deshaun Watson reached triple-digits both rushing and passing. He was electric, carrying the top-ranked Tigers despite defensive miscues in a too-close-for-comfort win at South Carolina.

In addition to his three games of over 100 yards rushing and 200+ passing, Watson has two games rushing into the 90s against Notre Dame and Miami. He’s been the most explosive dual-threat quarterback throughout 2015, and is the most realistic contender to Alabama’s Derrick Henry.

1. ALABAMA RB DERRICK HENRY

Talk about saving the best for last. Derrick Henry bombarded Auburn for 271 yards on an insane 46 carries Saturday, and completed the regular season with a touchdown in every contest. Considering how mediocre the Alabama passing attack has looked at times — if not outright putrid — the earlier analogy of Henry as a one-man warrior holds particular weight.

Henry’s path to the Heisman Trophy is clear. He’s the anointed favorite of most every national media outlet, including Sports Illustrated, and is “way out in front” of USA Today‘s Heisman survey.

Bruce Feldman guaranteed Henry’s Heisman victory, with the lone qualifier being “a dud against UF in the SEC title game.”

Considering the Gators’ vaunted defense surrendered 183 yards and two touchdowns to fellow Heisman contender Dalvin Cook, I don’t envision that happening.
