Not since Week 1 has CFB Huddle had a Six-Pack for a Thursday slate. A six-game weeknight to open Week 9 is cause for celebration, even if it means diverting my attention from AMC’s annual horror marathon, Fearfest.
You’ll have plenty more opportunity to catch the worthwhile installments in the Halloween franchise — the original, Season of the Witch — while college football gives you an excuse to not accidentally stumble on the bad installments. I’m looking at you, Rob Zombie.
On a night AMC is dedicating to Michael Myers, it’s fitting that a would-be ACC title contender, North Carolina or Pitt, will have its dreams slashed. Meanwhile, a preseason Pac-12 favorite, Arizona State or Oregon, can look forward to the horror of a .500 record come Halloween.
Banged-up TCU has been a repeated survivor in Big 12 play, but can the Horned Frogs escape another test Thursday night when West Virginia invades Fort Worth?
All these treats, with some MAC and Sun Belt thrown in for good measure. Just don’t overindulge tonight; there’s still a full weekend of football ahead, and you don’t want to get a stomach ache.

THURSDAY’S SIX-PACK: Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale
California’s Central Coast isn’t known for its breweries; certainly not like North County San Diego, where one can’t throw a rock without hitting an ironically mustachioed brewmaster.
But located in Paso Robles is Firestone Walker, which brews some of the best beers coming out of the Golden State. With October ending and the transition to cooler weather, now is an appropriate time of year to sample some of the richer beers. Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale is nice and thick without being too cumbersome.
