Throughout the 2015 season, starting in August, CFB Huddle gauged the temperature of the Heisman race every week leading up to the award’s selection. The 2016 Heisman Top 10 forecast kicks off early, as there’s no shortage of media outlets and voters offering up projections

Two things to bear in mind for those new to this process: 1. The following isn’t your humble author’s personal ranking, but rather a prediction based on columns, social media and other indicators from national reporters and voters. 2. The Top 10 you see today will change dramatically, and perhaps well before the season even begins.

Take Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson, a hot name last summer whose buzz really began in earnest after spring practices. An impressive and/or well-publicized spring can shake up the landscape heading into the summer. So, too, can injuries.

So, the Heisman Top 10 will be updated in May once all spring practices conclude and hype begins anew. Don’t be surprised to see Oregon’s Montana State transfer quarterback Dakota Prukop generate some buzz. Another update is slated for the weeks leading into training camp, after media days and other preseason events help establish the narratives that will dominate Week 1.

Because the season is so far out, and the current batch of media projections are based entirely on 2015 and/or personal conjecture, the number of names getting play varies wildly compared to, say, late October.
