Chalk up another 5-star quarterback prospect for Kevin Sumlin, whose Texas A&M Aggies received a verbal commitment from Tate Martell Thursday.

Martell committed to Washington as an eighth grader, a decision and process the Bishop Gorman quarterback explained to USA Today‘s Nicole Auerbach.
The head coach to whom Tate Martell committed then, Steve Sarkisian, was in the mix for the quarterback’s pledge once again at USC. However, Sumlin adds an heir apparent to 5-star 2015 signee Kyler Murray (who is the heir apparent to current Aggies starter, Kyle Allen).
Tate Martell landing at Texas A&M makes USC landing Hawaiian prospect Tua Tagovailoa all the more important, writes Reign of Troy’s Michael Castillo.
Tagovailoa is a product of St. Louis, the same Honolulu high school that produced Marcus Mariota. And, wouldn’t you know, Oregon is in the mix for the 4-star, dual threat quarterback.
Paul Petrino Fires at The Media
Michael-Shawn Dugar, Moscow-Pullman Daily News
For a brief moment in time, Moscow, Idaho, was the center of the college football world. For a long-struggling program like Idaho, that means either something remarkably great or remarkably awful went down. This was the latter.
The above-linked column by Moscow-Pullman Daily News sports editor Michael-Shawn Dugar paints the picture of a head coach, frustrated by a 2-21 record over the last two years, letting that frustration boil over on the few people who give much attention to Idaho Vandals football.
Paul Petrino and Idaho athletic director Rob Spear called an afternoon press conference, which instead became a brief statement without media, to apologize. Or refute Dugar’s claims. Or both.
Petrino and Spear apparently took umbrage with Dugar’s use of the word “restrained” to describe an assistant redirecting Petrino amid a tirade.
The “press” conference seems to have exacerbated the situation. To wit:
Thin skin seems to be contagious at the University of Idaho: "You are blocked from following @Rob_Spear and viewing @Rob_Spear's Tweets."

Theo Lawson of The Lewiston Tribune offered his version of events.
So nothing’s really determined, except this: All this focus on semantics amid fall camp says Petrino and Idaho are headed to another one-win season.
What Jim Mora’s Public Tongue-Lashing Means for UCLA Quarterback Josh Rosen
Ted Miller, ESPN.com
From yelling at media about criticizing quarterback, to yelling at media TO criticize a quarterback: ESPN.com’s Pac-12 reporter Ted Miller examines how a rant Jim Mora unleashed Wednesday, as reported by Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times, impacts UCLA’s quarterback race.
Five-star freshman Josh Rosen is locked in a battle with veteran Jerry Neuheisel, with the winner earning the starting job Brett Hundley held down for three years.
That this is a controversy is shocking to me. Paul Finebaum weighed in on College Football Live, and, well…
"To do it in front of whole world is completely & totally wrong." - @finebaum on Jim Mora #CFBLIVE pic.twitter.com/pXN417GE3M

Coaches yell. It happens. Some players need that kind of coaching for motivation. A 5-star recruit like Rosen, who’s been told he’s Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck since middle school, just might need such fuel now that he’s at a higher level.
Finebaum and others criticizing Mora might want to listen to former Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins.
Western Michigan Walk-On Given Scholarship with Onside Kick
Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck takes a sometimes unorthodox approach, so his unusual means of giving a scholarship to a walk-on isn’t really a surprise.
Trevor Sweeney received his scholarship Thursday at Broncos fall camp in an onside kick drill.
